As I was researching the story behind this song, I found 2 different stories. One story stated that Elvina Hall wrote the words to the song on the flyleaf of a hymnal while her pastor was praying a REALLY long prayer. The other story states that while her pastor was preaching, Elvina's mind began to drift to what Jesus had done for us and that He truly paid the entire price for our sins. We can read either story and know that God used Elvina Hall to write one of the most beautiful songs that is sung in our churches.
Jesus Paid it All
I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small!
Child of weakness, watch and pray, find in Me thine all in all."
Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow'r, and Thine alone,
Can change the leper's spots and melt the heart of stone.
For nothing good have I whereby Thy grace to claim-I'll wash my garments white in the blood of Calv'rys Lamb.
And when before the throne I stand in Him complete,
"Jesus died my soul to save," my lips shall still repeat.
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain-
He washed it white as snow.
