A Field Trip - the Georgia Aquarium

On Tuesday, we were able to go to the Georgia Aquarium. This was our first trip and to see some of the most beautiful creatures that God created ~ it's amazing!

I've been wanting to see the enormous Whale Shark and the beautiful Beluga Whale. I'm still trying to get over the excitement. Many of the the other fish and see creatures we have seen before at a couple of other aquariums. Seeing them again, is still a treat.

I had to video some of the wonders that we saw. Just because they were so amazing and pictures did not do anything for them. Here are a few short videos that I took.

Birthday Wishes

It's hard to believe that 11 years ago today, I was in the hospital waiting for you, my precious little baby to be born.  A gift that God trusted me to raise for Him. What a wonderful opportunity to be given!

There are have been times that I have felt like I've failed the Lord. Being human, I know that there will be many more times that I will feel like this before my time of raising you will be come to an end.

My prayer for you for this year is that you will take each day at a time and do all that you can for the Lord. Love Him, Stand in Awe of Him, Worship Him. No matter what goes on around you...

HE is ALL that MATTERS.

Happy Birthday, Jamie! I love you with all my heart.

Day Book

Outside my window... a pleasant fall day! The wind is blowing, the temperature is right about 64 and should not be any warmer than about 68 for the high. The sun is shining the sky is partially cloudy with beautiful white puffs of clouds.

I am thinking... what I need to do to prepare for Monkey's birthday on Wednesday. He is wanting Cowboy Burgers and a cake from the Publix bakery.
I am thankful for... my health.
From the learning rooms... we began our week with Stonehenge and Early Egypt today. Since we take off a day for Monkey's birthday, I'm moving some things around. We have a missions conference next week, so we're going to be working on some of the lessons for next week.
From the kitchen... I'm thinking today would be a good day for homemade chicken soup... We'll see.
I am creating... I started knitting my first pair of socks last week. Last night I began working on the gusset and somehow pulled a needle out and with it came a good length of yarn. So I had to frog my sock and start all over. I'm not discouraged! I'm actually glad this happened, because I found a couple of places that did not knit at tightly as I would have liked. YAY! I can fix those.
I am reading... The Adventures of Young Buffalo Bill  To The Frontier by E. Cody Kimmel and The Abernathy Boys by L.J. Hunt. I'm reading these out loud with Monkey.
I am praying... about a meeting that my husband has next week.
Around the house... I have some major tidying up. My husband left a (HUGE)pile of things out while searching for some of his hunting things that I put away last year. Of course, he can't find anything that I put away because it messes with his organization. 8-)
A few plans for the rest of the week... We were planning on going to the Zoo tomorrow with our homeschool group. But a family member bought us tickets for the Homeschool Day at the Georgia Aquarium. Since those have already been paid for, we are going to take Monkey and use Tuesday as a little celebration for his birthday on Wednesday. I have to do some light grocery shopping this afternoon. I have to work on the tablecloth for our display. The corners keep trying to turn outward, so I'm either going to have to put a pleat in or maybe a quick fix with some snaps. All of this on top of my weekly cleaning schedules.

The Way Home a Review

A missing child. A family in crisis. A faith tested. In their darkest hour, God gives hope. Dean Cain stars as Randy Simpkins, a husband and father torn between the demands of his job and family. Asked by his wife to watch their two-year-old son, Joe, for a few minutes, he becomes distracted by work. When he returns, Joe is gone. He and his wife search desperately for their missing son through the vast countryside. But as their fear grows, the community responds – hundreds of supporters uniting behind the family in a powerful spiritual journey that will test the couple’s love and faith, and forever change a community.

My Thoughts:

A good movie!  When I chose The Way Home to review, I did not realize that this is the story of a family from here in Georgia. After watching a few minutes into the movie, I realized that I remember when this happened. Being a mother, my heart was torn, while watching the hurt that these parents must have went through while their little toddler was missing.  ** Grab a box of tissues!**

This is not a mega multi million dollar production. Some of the acting is not the best. But the story about how a family holds on to their faith and how a community gathers around the family in a time of need, is wonderful.

I received this movie for free from Book Sneeze in return for my honest opinion.

Day Book

Outside my window... it's cloudy, no wait... The blue sky and sun is trying to peak through the clouds. The temperature outside is under 80 degrees. What an amazing thing! Hopefully fall has arrived after the front moved through yesterday.

I am thinking... about the rest of my day. I have some digging to do. I've got to dig through my fabric to see what all I have as for flannels and denims.
I am thankful for... an unexpected check in the post office box and the rain that we had yesterday.
From the learning rooms... we are moving right along and enjoying this year. Monkey is really enjoying Science. Tomorrow, we'll be starting lesson 2 the Skeletal System. We're also studying about the Sumerians in our History.
From the kitchen... nothing too creative this week.
I am creating... I'm working on the idea of some things that I can sell. Some of things that I have rolling around in my brain, I already make. But there are some that I've not tried. So I'll be working to see how they go.
I am reading... Schoolhouse Brides ~ I'm not too sure about this one. I really don't care for novellas. This was sent to me when I placed an order for some books.
I am praying... our ministry's calendar to fill up and more churches to join us in spreading the Gospel in Montana.
Around the house... I've been working on the closets and drawers. Trying to purge the worn out and too little clothing.
A few plans for the rest of the week... We have Camp Meeting at our church this week. My husband will be attending the morning services alone and Monkey and I will join him for the evening services. We have some friends that will be coming down from North Carolina to join in on the meetings. I'm looking forward to see them all again.

Laundry Detergent Update

If you've been reading my blog for a while, then you know that I made my first batch of Laundry Detergent back in the summer.

I have not used anything else on our clothes except for this detergent. Let me tell you... I LOVE IT! I have not had any problems with weird smells, stains, etc.  Boy howdy, the fabrics are very soft. I will say that they are not as soft as using a good fabric softener. But that is an expense that I just don't see the need for, right now.

I normally do not wash my husband's dress shirts, they go to the cleaners. Anyway, I have had to wash one or two, because of time restraints. I used a bar of Fels-Naptha with a little water around the collar. This stuff is a great stain remover. As for the shirts, they did not have any adverse effects by using this detergent. ** When I bought the soap back in the summer, I bought two bars. I couldn't remember how many the recipe called for. I have a new stain remover!!! Everything that I have used this other bar on... COMES OUT of the clothes. ~YEE HAW!!!~

I had posted about this here and on Facebook and receive a couple of comments about the ingredients that are in the Fels-Naptha ~ 1. It is a LAUNDRY SOAP. It is not meant to be used as a bath and hand soap. 2. For a one five gallon bucket of detergent, you are only using one bar of soap. 3. We are exposed (daily) to things that are mind boggling. So use caution!

Crockpot Brunswick Stew

My husband is a huge Brunswick Stew lover! Before I met him, I never really ate it too much, but I do remember my mother making it for us when I was young because my father LOVES Brunswick Stew. My husband shared his love for the stewy goodness with me and I have not been the same since.

In fact, I'll never forget eating Mr. Tillman's Brunswick stew when my husband would bring it home from a rabbit hunting trip.  Mr. Tilllman knew how much I loved his stew and he even tried to get me to trade my shotgun for a gallon of stew one time. Yeah, I love my little 20 gauge shotgun my husband went with me to buy after we were married. It's something I would NEVER get rid of it, especially for food. :)
If you are one who really doesn't care for the taste of foods cooked in the crock pot, then I have a secret to share with you... this recipe is extremely easy to cook on the stove top. Just put everything in a stock pot and simmer on low for about an hour. I will tell you this much, the taste improves the longer it cooks. You can add a little water or chicken broth to the pot to keep it from sticking while it cooks.
If I find a really good sale on pork chops, I use them instead of ground pork. I just fry the chops, and then chop them up and pour BBQ sauce on them and put them in the freezer until I need them.  I do the same thing  with boneless chicken breasts.  If you have any left over meat from a meal use it, instead of cooking it all. Also, I chop up everything before adding it to the pot. In a true southern stew, you can not tell what is in it according to our friend Mr. Tillman.
Making Brunswick Stew in the crockpot is easy since all you have to do is dump everything and let it cook.

CROCK POT BRUNSWICK STEW

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground pork
  • 1 1/2 pounds stew beef chopped into small pieces
  • 1 whole chicken, cooked, deboned and chopped into small pieces
  • 3 cans whole peeled tomatoes with liquid, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup hickory flavored bbq sauce
  • 2 cans whole kernel corn, reserve the juice of one can
  • 2 cans creamed corn
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • hot sauce to taste (optional)
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet, and saute the onions until soft. Mix in the pork and beef, and cook until evenly browned. Do not drain.
In a food processor, place the meat and give it a whirl for just a bit. Transfer the pork and beef mixture to a large crock pot. Stir in the chicken, tomatoes and their liquid, whole kernel corn, ketchup, and bbq sauce. Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Stir the cream style corn into the stew mixture about 30 minutes before serving.
If your stew is extremely thick, you can add the reserved corn juice to thin it down to your preference.

Day Book

Outside my window... There is the most beautiful blue sky today. The sun is shining without a cloud to be seen. The temperatures are bearable. It actually feels like September with just a little mugginess thrown in.

I am thinking... About all the things that I would like to be able to do, if money was not a kink in the chain. 8-)
I am thankful for... For many things!
From the learning rooms... We are on our second week of school (at home). We have finally received all of our books. Our Math Curriculum finally arrived today. We've really been enjoying our new History Curriculum ~ The Mystery of History. We are on our second week. Yesterday we talked about Noah, the Flood, life on the ark and what the earth must have looked like when Mr. and Mrs. Noah and family stepped off the ark. For Science in our Apologia Human Anatomy and Physiology we're finishing up lesson one and CELLS. This is a very detailed study, I've even learned some new things.
From the kitchen... I have a pot of Chili on simmering. It's really not Chili weather, but I've been in the mood for a good bowl of homemade Chili.
I am creating... I'm still slowing working on the afghan, but I'm working on some wash cloths and dish cloths for Christmas presents.
I am reading... I'm reading a really good book. It's for a book review that I was chosen for with Litfuse. I'll be writing a review to post in early October for their blog tour. You'll have to watch for the review. This book is amazing!
I am praying... For my friends Wesley and Erin Pittman. They left yesterday for their mission field~ Rockhampton, Australia. They are not due to land in Sydney until about 6 o'clock eastern time this evening. (Syndey time about 8 am Wednesday the 22nd). I had to do a little research on the time differences since they are so far ahead of us.
I am hearing... Monkey working (giggling) on his Teaching Textbooks Math 5. He was not expecting to enjoy it. But he must have, since he worked on two lessons.
Around the house...I'm still trying to get over the "not being at home" for four weeks. I'm working on cleaning out clothes that no longer fit, to donate.
A few plans for the rest of the week... NOTHING! I know that must sound crazy. But I really enjoy being at home. I'll be working on cleaning and decluttering.
