FOR TODAY ... Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Outside my window... The sun is shining, with a few wispy clouds. The birds are singing praises unto their Creator.

I am thinking... About all of the things that I have to do.

I am thankful for... A wonderful husband, who loves me.

From the learning rooms... I'm finishing up deciding on what we are going to be using in the fall.

From the kitchen... We are enjoying some of the fruits of our labor - fresh squash.

I am wearing... My house cleaning outfit.

I am creating... Still working on the afghan. I've been working on a cast iron handle mitt.

I am going... To the library to pick up some books that are on hold, then to Church tonight.

I am reading... The Solitary Envoy by T. Davis Bunn - kinda slow getting going, hopefully it gets better soon.

I am praying... For several requests and for a change in our country.

I am hearing... A cartoon playing.

Around the house... I have the bathrooms to clean, along with wiping down the kitchen. You can see my cleaning schedule HERE.

One of my favorite things... Peanut M&M's

A few plans for the rest of the week... Nothing as of yet.

Here is a picture thought (saying) I am sharing...

Homeschool Curriculum Choice 2009-2010 {Grade 4}

I can't believe that we are starting our second week of no school for the summer. Believe it or not, I could not wait for the end of this school year. I'm usually one who is prepared, organized and... can I say prepared again? Since this year was a trying time for me, I'm so thankful that it is over.

HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM CHOICE 2009-2010 {4TH GRADE}

Now that we are on our second week, I'm looking forward to getting started next year. Yep, I've been planning for our new year. We missed the GHEA homeschool convention in May, I had been looking forward to being there. But for some reason the Lord had other plans. My husband and I are planning on attending the Southeast Homeschool Expo at the end of July. There are some really neat workshops that I would like to attend...hoping that I'll be able to glean from some of those.
Well, I have decided on every subject except for Science. I mentioned in an earlier post that my hang up was Math, well that is settled, now it's on to something else. Monkey mentioned to me several times that he really doesn't care too much for Science. But he thought if maybe we could find something that was more interesting to use, he might like it again.
I have spent many hours over the last couple of months researching different areas and methods of study. One of the methods, that has really sparked an interest is the Charlotte Mason approach. I remember hearing about this approach when I first started homeschooling and I thought that I never would be able to do it. So I have decided to try and "ease" into this method. I know that there are everyday things that are being taught where this method is being implemented, so I truly believe (after 4 years) that it will be something that I want to do with my son. After all, he is the reason why I'm homeschooling.
This is my dilemma for Science... Here in the state of Georgia, we have to have our children tested every three years, starting in third grade. I'm concerned about using a year long "themed" study, not giving everything that is going to be needed for the testing. I hope I made myself clear on that. I just want Monkey to have everything that he needs when I give him the "test."
This is what I've come up with - so far.

I am Protected, I am Sanctified

Think about how you protect your child. Would you go to great lengths to keep them safe? Would you put your life on the line for them? Why would you do this? Children never really think about what parents do to keep them protected. What about you? Have you thought about how God protects you?

When Jesus was praying, before the crucifixion – He prayed that God would keep us protected. John 17:15 says, I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. Jesus wanted us to be protected. Through God, I AM PROTECTED!

Being a child of God, we are set apart from others. In John 17:17 it says, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. According to Webster’s Dictionary: Sanctify to set apart to a sacred purpose or to religious use. Christians are to be working for God. We are not to be just on the side lines, watching everyone else doing all the work. There are many people who are unable to physically work for the Lord. But you know, they can be prayer warriors, or encouragers. There are many people today that would not be working for the Lord if it weren’t for those prayers and emcouragements. Through God, I AM SANCTIFIED!

Under some of the carpeting there is still some blood stains from the wounded. Curious as to what the building looks like?... Here it is

Cub Scouts

Tonight was our Cub Scouts last pack meeting for the year and the moving up ceremony. We were able to be at the local park, which is pretty nice. This park is new, and I had not been there. It was really neat. This park is full of Water Oak trees with lots of shade. We were under the pavilion, it's a good thing too, since it decided to rain. :)

Here are a few pictures from tonight.

I am His

I think about the excitement that is on the face of a child, when they are given something to be their own. As long as that child is encouraged to  love and take care of that item, they will do it. They will tell people that it belongs to them.  If something ever happens to it, they grieve over it.  Children are can be so compassionate over things that we adults don’t think twice about.

I can only imagine how Jesus felt, when He was given us Christians.

In John 17 we find the Prayer of Intercession. This is the true Lord’s Prayer.  In verse 9 we read, I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are mine.

When I think about these words: I pray for them and for them which thou hast given me; for they are mine. There is a lot of comfort in those words. To know that Jesus prays for me and He considers me His own.  To know that He will “grieve” over mistakes, that I make, but He will also forgive me, when I ask for forgiveness.

Thank you, Lord for loving me.

I Sought the Lord

I remember when I was in the fifth grade, our church was having a special day for our Christian school. Since I attended the school, I was asked to give a short testimony during the Sunday evening service. Boy, I hated this idea. I did not want to stand in front of all those people and tell a little about my testimony and what the school meant to me.

I wrote out what I wanted to say and began practicing it. All week, I worked on the “speech.” It was not until Saturday evening that the FEAR set in. My Momma gave me a verse to claim. She explained this verse to me and I was happy to know that there was a verse in the Bible that dealt with what I was about to have to face on the following evening.

The verse that I claimed that night and still do to this day when I have fears that come my way was

Psalms 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
