Day Book

Outside my window... It's raining and cold. What a yucky day!

I am thinking... How I wish the weather would make up it's mind and either be winter or spring. It's hard to have a couple of days of spring like weather and then BOOM winter time has hit again.
I am thankful for... The snow missing us. I love snow, but not here in Georgia.
From the learning rooms... We've been studying about Venus in our Science this week. On Thursday night, we were able to spy the planet Mars. We were hoping to see the beautiful full moon and Mars together, but with the clouds we missed it this time.
From the kitchen...
I made the most wonderful cream filled cupcakes, yesterday. There were so easy and yet delicious. I have a pot of  black eye peas on the stove for supper tonight.I am creating... I have the pattern for this bag (the pink one in the middle) cut out. I have some black with polka dot fabric, I'm going to work on this afternoon.
I am reading... I just finished The Confidential Life of Eugenia Cooper: A Novel by Kathleen Y'Barbo. I highly recommend this book. I couldn't put it down and I'm positive that you won't either.  I started Going to the Chapel by Rebecca Kelly. This is  a continuation of The Tails from Grace Chapel Inn.
I am praying...For a family in our church, whose husband, father, and grandfather passed away earlier this week. I'm also praying for a mom, who is having to watch helplessly as her oldest child is battling cancer.
I am hearing... My husband on the phone with a Pastor and Monkey playing with his Air Hogs helicopter.
Around the house... I have a couple of loads of laundry going right now. I have some light dusting and vacuuming to work on.
One of my favorite things...The first sign of spring flowers pushing their way up through the ground.
A few plans for the rest of the week...
We have church tomorrow, my husband's teaching the teen class. Hopefully, our school week will go according to plan.

Day Book

Outside my window... Another chilly, cloudy and damp day. We were able to enjoy some spring like weather during the  first part of the week and now were are going back to our yucky winter weather.

I am thinking... Not sure what I'm thinking right now. I  am trying to get over a migraine, so I'm a little foggy.
I am thankful for... My friends!
From the learning rooms... We have been working hard on nouns, subjects and verbs. Thanks to a dear teacher friend of mine, who I taught school with, I learned to teach prepositions first, then all the other parts of speech are easy to pick out.
From the kitchen... I  have some leftover turkey from earlier this week, so I'm thinking on either a Turkey Pot Pie or Turkey Tetrazzini for supper.
I am creating... I'm really not in a creative mood for some reason. But that is alright, since I do have some ideas playing in my mind. Hopefully, I'll be able to start one this week.
I am reading...I just finished the book Recipes and Wooden Spoons in the Tales of Grace Chapel series, last night.  I can't wait for the next one.
I am praying... For several things for our family.
I am hearing...Monkey putting together a model.
Around the house... I have some light dusting and vacuuming to do along with a small load of laundry - what a surprise!
One of my favorite things... The smell right before it rains.
A few plans for the rest of the week... I need to go to the library today on top of the little things I have to do around here. We have church tomorrow and then a school week.

A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On

Wow! It seems like forever since I've been here. Our trip last week to Oklahoma was quite interesting! We were able to see God work in many lives.  We were able to stay with the most hospitable family and we count them as friends.  I can't believe that I had my camera in hand, and never thought about getting a picture of them.

Last Thursday morning, we were awakened  by an earthquake! Let's just say, that when you least expect it, they can scare the life out of you.   When it first started, I thought a plane had hit the house. The roaring that came with all the shaking and when the bed felt like it had been picked up and dropped onto the floor was unbelievable!  ~SCARY! When I was more alert and  heard the blinds shaking, I knew what was going on then so  I snuggled  under the covers and went back to sleep. Then on Friday when we left the Oklahoma City National Memorial we had another earthquake. This time it was not really all that bad, we were in the car on the expressway. The only way we knew that it happened; we could hear it and feel the car being pulled with the shaking.  Here in Georgia, we  have hardly any earthquakes. We had one about 7 years ago and it was nothing compared to the one on Thursday.

After making a couple of stops on the way home, we arrived at 4:00 on Saturday morning.  Now that we have recovered from the trip and unpacked all our clothes, I have a mountain of laundry to work on.

As for my new Bible, for my daily reading... I am so glad that I bought it. I have really enjoyed using it for my reading. I find it easier to do my daily reading through the Bible. So far, the only thing I found that I would change is the words of Christ in red - they are in black.

** I do have a few pictures. Hopefully I can get them uploaded sometime this afternoon.

Day Book

Outside my window... It is sunny with a few clouds in the sky. The temperatures are extremely cold for this area.  As of right now it is 25 degrees. Brrr!!!! I don't think the temperatures have risen above freezing all week.

I am thinking... About all the things that I have to do today. There is so much to finish up on preparing for our trip on Monday.
I am thankful for... Answered prayers. The Lord's timing is always perfect, even when we think it's late.
From the learning rooms... We are working on some school work today, since we will be traveling next week. I just hate getting behind in school work.
From the kitchen... Homemade Pizza for supper tonight.
I am creating... I'm not being very creative right now.
I am reading... In my daily Bible reading ~ Genesis, Psalms, Proverbs and Matthew. I found the book Back Home Again from the Grace Chapel Inn series at the library last week. I'm really enjoying it. That crazy Aunt Ethel is something!
I am praying... For our church services tomorrow and our trip to Oklahoma next week.
I am hearing... Monkey playing in the basement.
Around the house... There is so much to do today. All the laundry is finished. YAY! Then there is the DREADED IRONING. I've got to work on Sunday clothes and then the clothes that are going in the suit case. After all the presentation things are put back in their box (they're in, they're out, they're in, they're out), I have some vacuuming to do.
One of my favorite things... Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs. It's a sure sign that the stores are getting ready for Easter, when you find them.
A few plans for the rest of the week... We have a few school things to work on today, more packing and getting ready for the trip. A few minor things that need to be done around the house. A quick trip to the library this afternoon. Church tomorrow and then we leave on Monday ~ Woo Hoo!

A Good Day

Today turned out to be a good first day back to homeschooling.

I had forgotten to set the clock, so I slept later than I had wanted, so my routines were out of whack.  Back in November, I starting allowing Monkey to sleep in later, since he is not a morning person. With him sleeping in, schoolwork goes smoother for us, until we get to Math. That's a whole other post by itself.  ;) I was surprised to see Monkey eager to begin his school work this morning. He worked very hard at getting everything finished. ~ I'm so proud of him.

We are spending this week trying to get everything ready for our trip to Oklahoma City next week. Up until last night, I really had no desire to go. It seemed that we were not going to go at all. We have really been up against a brick wall regarding somethings within our deputation process.

But after being in church on Sunday night and hearing the message that Pastor Andy Huff ( a friend of ours) preached about the Apostle John and being a servant of Christ's, I was so refreshed and ready for our trip. We are stepping out on faith for next week. Since we don't use any credit cards and pay cash for everything, this seems to slow things down for us.  But I know that the Lord can provide the rest of the funds before we leave next Monday morning.

I finally finished hemming my new jean skirt that I sewed. Hemming is the most dreaded part of sewing for me. I would really love to have a My Double Dress Form. My sister has one and I love being able to use it for making sure my hemming is even.  But there are times, when I don't have the time to wait and take items to her house to pin up. Hopefully one day...

Well, I'll be busy this week, hopefully I'll be around before Thursday for my Thankful Thursday post. I pray that you all have a great week

Day Book

Outside my window... The sun is shining and it is very cold.  It's cold enough for the neighbor's swimming pool to have ice on top of the cover and it is sitting in direct sunlight. So yeah, it's cold!

I am thinking... About church tonight. We are visiting with a friend who is a Pastor of a church that is near the state line. I love visiting there, they are so much like a second home. The people are so friendly.
I am thankful for... So many things!
From the learning rooms... It's hard to believe that we get back to grindstone tomorrow. After church tonight I will work on lesson plans, so we will be ready for tomorrow.
From the kitchen... Today is FYOF day! I love those days. FYOF means Fix Your Own Food.
I am creating... I finished a skirt this week, to wear to church today. I have a jean skirt waiting to be hemmed. That's the part I hate about sewing !
I am reading... The Long Way Home by Lauraine Snelling. This is the final book of the Refuge Series. These books are good, but I don't think they are the author's best work.
I am praying... About a phone call that we are waiting on from Montana.
I am hearing... Monkey watching a movie.
Around the house... Nothing much today and it being Sunday.
One of my favorite things... Puppies!
A few plans for the rest of the week... Church tonight, school starts back tomorrow and who knows about anything else as of right now. We will have to wait and see. :)

Coming To An End...

It's a little hard to believe that this year is coming to a close  and that there's only one more day in 2009.  I think about all that our family has gone through and is still going through and I would like to leave this year in the dust and not look back.

I want to wake up on Friday morning feeling refreshed and with prayers and an outlook  that 2010 will be better than the last.

When I sit here and think about all that as gone on, I could get bitter and disgusted. I have had to deal with bitterness within the last couple of years. Remembering how my precious husband and son were affected by it, I would never won't to allow that to come back into my (our) life.

I know that we are not promised a tomorrow, according to James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. I also know that the new year could bring much greater hardships and trials than I have been through this year. But no matter what I will have to face, the Lord already knows about it. What is really amazing is that He is right there beside me through it all. He promised He would be in Hebrews  13 :5 ... for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

My family have had some good times this year. I'm very thankful for those times.  But Satan really knows how to make those tough days and situations seem a lot worse than they really are.  When this happens, we need to remind him, where he is going to be one day. Then we need to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and keep on living for the Lord.

My goal for this new year is to start everyday according to this verse. Psalm 5: 3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

Our Busy Week

Last week was really busy! I had planned to do some school work with Monkey, but that just didn't happen. I guess, the Lord knew that we both needed a break from schoolwork.

Last Sunday, I was able to give THIS to a precious little girl that has been visiting our church.  I was able to knit the sweater in a week and had it finished about a week ago, but the family missed a Sunday service.

On Monday, our family went to Lennox Square, this is Atlanta's oldest mall and in the Buckhead area. We went to ride the Pink Pig.  This is in a very "high maintenance" part of the Atlanta area. Boy, talk about feeling out of  place.  We are in the north east part of Georgia, so we usually shop at the mall in Athens or at the Mall of Georgia.  The Mall of Georgia is the largest but the amount of shoppers doesn't compare to the amount at Lennox.  We really had a good time. Since we went during the day the line was extremely long. We had to wait for 2 1/2 hours to ride. Monkey really enjoyed riding even with the long wait. He has a memory of an Atlanta tradition that he can carry with him.

On Tuesday night we went to Bethlehem, GA to see the live nativity. This was really neat.  The pastor of the Methodist Church in Bethlehem, read the Christmas story  and the members of the church had the roles of Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men, the shepherds and angels were some really cute children.  This has been a tradition for the city of Bethlehem for many years. It was the first time, that we had been and we really enjoyed it.

We were able to visit a house that was decorated with Christmas lights and the neatest thing about it, was that the lights were set to music. The owners are "amateur  radio" operators, so they had the music on the radio. We were able to sit in the car and listen to the Christmas lights. This was such fun. Monkey really enjoyed the reindeer that would sing to the songs.

On Wednesday, I finally had all the shopping finished. So I spent a good deal of time making Cake Bites and Caramel Squares. Both of these recipes were super easy and so yummy.

We had a good Christmas Eve with family at my sister's. Then Christmas day we were at home. I did go to to the mall to return a gift and try to find something in its place. But that didn't happen. It seemed to me that the stores really didn't have a good after Christmas sale. Hopefully, I'll give my hand a try at it again sometime this week.

I hope you all have had a good week.
