Reusing Old Baking Soda from the Frig and Freezer

I don’t know about you, but I really hate to throw out old things if they can still be used. BAKING SODA is one of those things. We all have those little boxes in our refrigerators and freezers - hopefully, you don’t throw them away when you change them out, but if you do, don’t because you can still use them.
Reusing Old Baking Soda from the Frig and Freezer is a money saving option for cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. 4 areas where I reuse old baking soda while cleaning around the house.

Reusing Old Baking Soda

Four things I use old baking soda (from the frig/freezer) on around the house.

  • Drains – Baking soda, vinegar, and a boiling water flush help keep the drain in the kitchen and bathroom sinks clean and fresh.

  • Pots and Pans – I use baking soda to clean the bottoms of my stainless steel pots and pans. Make a paste with baking soda, liquid dish detergent, and vinegar – let it sit for a little while and give it a good scrubbing.

  • Oven – I make a paste from this post and coat the inside of my oven at night and the next morning all I have to do is wipe it out. Depending on the mess, I have to use a little elbow grease to get stubborn areas clean.

  •  Bathroom – Old baking soda works well cleaning the sink, tub, and toilet. No need to buy a powder abrasive cleaner, old baking soda is a money saver.

Just like a new box of baking soda, an old box works just as well on cleaning around the house. Since the old boxes from the refrigerator and the freezer have been used to absorb odors, it is not recommended to reuse it in cooking and baking, but I recommend using it in cleaning.

Do you throw out the boxes, or do you use the old baking soda and on what?

  1. Great tips. Sadly baking soda comes in tiny little containers here and isn't cheap. These are great tips though.

  2. I enjoy your tips. Thank you for sharing this Lori.
    God bless

  3. I thought I had a hard time adjusting to not having some conveniences when we moved, but I can't imagine living on the mission field and doing without a lot of things, I take for granted. Sorry it took me longer to respond, I'm trying to get used to this work schedule and it is driving me nutty.
