The Heart of the Home {Day 2}

Today is Day 2 of the 31 Days of Homemaking Series and it is all about The Heart of the Home.

Homemaking is something that has been dear to my heart from the time I was a little girl. I have always wanted to be a wife, mom and care for my home. It was not until June of 2005 when the Lord allowed me to become a full-time homemaker. My dream!
The Heart of the Home: Day 2 of 31 Days of Homemaking Series. What's the heart of the home? It's not what you think. The Homemaker is the heart of the home.

The Heart of the Home

If you were asked the question, What is the heart of the home? You would probably say, the kitchen. Of course, that answer would be correct so to speak, for many families, the kitchen is where just about everything goes on. Where do family and friends tend to gather when they are visiting and during the holidays? The kitchen. There is something special about that particular room in a house.

To me, the kitchen is my favorite place to be. I love to cook and bake for my family. Every time, I prepare a meal or a special treat, I do it out of love for my family.

As a Christian wife and mother, I do not believe just the kitchen is the heart of our home. I believe that I am the heart of our home.  I am the one who manages and works to keep our home in harmony. If I am the one with a sour attitude, everyone else will have that sour attitude also. But, if I have a happy attitude, then most likely everyone else will be able to have a happy attitude. Don’t get me wrong, there are days, in which our attitudes are not like they are supposed to be – we are far from perfect.

If my husband comes home and has had a bad at work, and he walks into World War III, he is not going to want to stay. He is going to want to turn right around and go somewhere else. Coming home in the afternoons should be a moment in his day that he looks forward to, not dreads. After enduring a day with unfavorable people, he wants to be able to come to a place of rest that is peaceful, where he will be able to relax without any added stress.

If your children are in a school they also want to come home to a place where they know and feel the love you have for them; a place that is stress-free.

Think about it like this. Would you really want to come home to a wife and mother like you? If not, why? Is there something that we knowingly do and have not tried correcting? What about those little things that we think are no big deal? Looking at the real us – our heart is where we are going to find if we are making a stressful or a stress-free home.

The homemaker is the Heart of the Home.
