A God Who Is Near {Thankful Thursdays}

Once or twice a year I like to dig out my Bible journals and read through the notes I have written. Reading over the notes and verses that stood out to me during my Bible reading brings them to my remembrance and reminds me of how I felt at that moment, something I want to remember. I came across the entry from March 16th and the words Am I a God at hand and not a God afar off jumped out at me. They stood out to me in March and again this week; today, I’m thankful for a God who is near.

A God Who Is Near

There are verses in the Old Testament that tell us of God’s promise to not leave Moses, Joshua and the Israelites. These verses tell that God would strengthen them and help them through the situations they were in. {Deuteronomy 31:6, Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 41:10}

In the New Testament, we find promises of Christ being with the disciples even after He returned to heaven. Paul reminds the Corinthians that their bodies are God’s temple and shares with the Ephesians that Christ will live in their hearts. In Hebrews, we are reminded that God will never leave us or forsake us. {Matthew 28:20, John 14:16-17, I Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 3:17}

Tweet This:  WE SERVE A GOD WHO IS NEAR

When I read Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD {Jeremiah 23:23}, I can’t help but feel a sense of amazement. I’m reminded as long as I don’t have sin in my life to separate me from God, He is near. He doesn’t take a break; He’s not napping when I need Him. He is not the one to walk away from me but rather the other way around. I quickly remember a statement that was shared during a message I heard once; you can’t hide from God. There is no deep, dark area for us to hide in and hide from God. He sees us, He knows us, and He knows where everything and everyone is at. He knows your heart when know one else does.

That’s the kind of God I serve and I’m thankful He is always near.

  7. Lori,
    It is so reassuring when we look back at what God put on our heart. I'm sure He knew you needed the reminder that He is near. He loves you and wanted to impress upon you that He is always nearer than you think or feel. I am learning that myself and I'm so thankful for His presence in my life. Thanks for sharing your heart again with us here today. Have a wonderful weekend and God bless!
