5 Pages from My Journal: the Book of Psalms

In the autumn of 2012, I started journaling what touched my heart while reading the Bible during my morning devotions. I began this for two reasons: I wanted a way to remember special nuggets I found and for my son and future generations to learn a little something about me through my thoughts on what stood out to me. Since all of my journals except for one are stored away, I’m sharing 5 pages from my journal from the book of Psalms.
5 Pages from My Journal - The Book of Psalms

5 Pages from My Journal: the Book of Psalms

From chapters 52-57:

• The goodness of God endures forever.
• I will trust in the mercy of God forever.
• God is my Helper.
• Through everything have FAITH in God. He will HEAR when I call on Him.
• God is for me, His child, all I have to do is put my trust in Him.
• I will sing and give praise to God.
• The glory of the Lord will be exalted above the earth.

From chapters 68-70:

• Life here on earth is a TEMPORARY journey. It comes with a lot of hardships, but the Lord SEES and HEARS everything. He will lift me up and carry me through.
• The Lord hears my prayers. He knows my heart. He knows everything I do – NOTHING is hidden from God.

From chapters 77-78:

• God is good ALL the time! When I feel He is not listening, remember what He has done in the past.
• He hears and will give GRACE and MERCY at the right time.
• God can’t work in my life when I don’t live for Him.
• THINK on the PAST – God has done some amazing things for me. REMEMBER those things and teach them to Jamie and his future family.

From chapters 81-82:

• God LONGS to bless me and my family.
• How long will I judge others? – DON’T JUDGE!
• How long will I CONTINUE accepting sin?  Sin is disgusting in God’s eyes; I should see it the same way.

From chapter 89:

• There is NO ONE who can be compared to God.
• No matter what I do, God WILL ALWAYS love me. He will not let me go unpunished, but He will continue to be FAITHFUL.

There are too many wonderful encouragements and directions throughout the Bible for me to keep in my heart. I have found journaling my thoughts on them can be helpful in remembering. It’s nice to look back on these 5 pages from my journal to remember the things the Lord showed me while in a time of distress. Those little comforts were given at the perfect moment and I’m thankful to have a written record of them.

Do you journal your Bible reading?

Because of Thanksgiving, I did not choose a featured post this week, but I will share one again next week.

You can view the LINKUP HERE.

  1. Hi Lori,

I do journal, more prayer than about what I'm reading, since my daily posts are based on that. But sometimes I record a passage that really speaks to me personally. Thanks for sharing your journals.

I was thinking about you and hoping things are going well. Hope your Thanksgiving was blessed.

    Thanks for hosting,

  2. I love this Lori! Thanks for giving us a peek at your journaling. Some valuable nuggets of wisdom for sure. I love what you gleaned from all the passages but I think I favor what you share from chapters 68-70. I am thankful that this is not my permanent home and that my Lord hears my prayers. Thank you again for the opportunity to share. I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving and may God continue to bless you and yours.

  3. I love Psalms and love that you have kept your journals, Lori. I have been thinking of doing this too. I start a journal and then often just don't keep it up. I really want to be more intentional, but goodness I can be lazy! :) I love this reminder and how you put it in all caps: "GOD CAN DO ANYTHING! There is NOTHING too big for Him. DON’T LIMIT WHAT GOD CAN AND WILL DO!" My heart needed to be reminded of this today. Thank you, sweet lady! xoxo I so enjoy stopping by your blog.

  4. Lori, I enjoyed reading your nuggets. So awesome when God speaks to us in a way we understand. I have lots of journals but don't usually read them. This makes me want to pull them out.

  5. Love this, Lori! Glad you're sharing part of your spiritual history with us. Looking back is so encouraging for me.

  6. I go back and forth between writing down insights I discover and trying to outline the passage I'm reading. I really enjoyed reading the insights you gained from the Psalms.

  7. I think journaling is such a great way to process our thoughts and to document our growth too. It’s beautiful to look back and read things from the past that we need in the present! I try to journal a few days each week from my daily bible readings. Thanks for sharing from your Psalms journal, Lori. Good stuff to remind me to keep trusting God for everything. He IS good all the time!

  8. I love reading through Psalms! I don't journal regularly, but I should...I always enjoy going back over notes I've taken from my Bible reading and study....it's where many of my songs have come from!

  9. I don't necessarily journal my Bible reading every time, but sometimes I do. It just depends on the day and what I read.

  10. Depending on what I read, I may only write one or two things.

  11. Deborah, Psalms is full of encouragement; I love reading it!

  12. Thanks, Lisa. God IS good all the time!

  13. I haven't tried to really outline a passage. When I was in the 10th grade we had to outline the book of Proverbs for our Bible class. That turned out to be a huge mess because the teacher only did it because our associate pastor suggested it. We were all lost - the blind leading the blind on that project. I think I'll have to give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks, Michele.

  14. Thanks, Kelly. Having these notes is a great encouragement.

  15. Debbie, I have found several blog posts buried in my thoughts in a journal. I think you ought to pull yours out and read them, you never know what you might find.

  16. Thanks, Nicki. When I started out I used different colored ink for special reminders. But changing the pens out slowed me down, so I began using all capital letters, drawing clouds and even using a highlighter every once in while.

  17. Thanks, Horace. We did have a good holiday. I'm thankful life here on earth is temporary. We have so much to look forward to when we get to Heaven. Have a great weekend.

  18. Thanks, Donna. Everything is going as good as it can be. We had a good Thanksgiving, I hope you all did too. I think your daily posts are a journal - they have some wisdom, encouragement, and direction in them.

  19. What treasured nuggets of Truth you have recorded that will be such a blessing to your son and many more! Thank you for hosting! It's good to be back this week!
    Blessings and smiles,
