4 Specific Things I Pray for Each Day

Praying for my family is an honor I don’t take lightly. While each day, I do things for both my husband and son like picking up dirty socks or taking a glass to be washed; things I don’t enjoy, I know those dirty socks and that glass have to be dealt with. But there is one thing I love to do and I never mention it to my husband and son, that is to pray for them.

In the past, I have shared 5 Ways I Pray for My Husband and 10 Ways to Pray for Our Children but today I want to share with you 4 Specific Things I Pray for Each Day for my family.

I hope when you read these four things, you will understand why I pray for them and you will see the need to pray for them also for your family.

Before I share the four things I want to state, I believe in the power of prayer. God hears our prayers, He understands. He knows exactly what we try to say when we can’t get the words out of our mouth; He knows. He listens. He cares. He answers. Prayer is not a one-sided act.

Prayer is a time where we can go to God and just talk to Him. We can open our heart to Him and tell Him all about our troubles, our hopes, our desires, and our longing to know more about Him. It should be a time that we long for, not dread.

4 Specific Things I Pray for Each Day

I pray for Wisdom.

We all need wisdom in our lives. Sometimes we have to think or act on our feet, because of that we need wisdom in every situation. The daily decisions, we need wisdom making them. Speaking with others, we need wisdom in saying the right words. If we don’t ask for wisdom, we may find ourselves in a sticky situation. (Proverbs 2:6, Proverbs 3:5, Ephesians 5:15, James 1:5)

I pray to be Peaceful.

We deal with people every day. And we can’t win over those who are “fighting” against us when we are not the peaceful person. Whether you are at home as I am, or out working with others, we have to be peaceful. We need to be kind with our words, our actions, and our body language. Body language tells the truth about a person during a situation. Sometimes, we have to give a Peace Offering to smooth over an unpleasant situation. (Psalm 34:14, Matthew 5:9, Philippians 4:7, Colossians 3:15, 2 Thessalonians 3:16, Hebrews 12:14)

I pray for our Hope in God to not fail.

As my sweet friend Susan told me, “as long as we have Jesus we have hope”. But you know, there are days when things seem hopeless. Finances is the biggest hope robber for many. Patience in waiting for answered prayer is another. Waiting for what seems like forever causes our hope to dwindle. A wayward child or family member brings about despair. As long as Jesus is on the throne – we have hope; we just have to hold on to it. (Psalm 39:7, Psalm 62:5, Psalm 71:14, Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 5:5, Romans 15:13, Hebrews 6:19, Hebrews 11:1)

Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:24

I pray our Faith does not diminish.

The last thing I pray for is the biggest concern for me. Having faith in the Lord; it is important. Without faith, our prayers can’t be answered. I don’t want my family to lose the faith they have while waiting on the Lord to answer prayers. It’s important that I keep asking for our faith to not fail. I’m not asking for more, I’m asking for what we have to not diminish. A mustard seed size amount of faith is not a lot, but it is big enough for the Lord to work. (Mark 11:22, Luke 1:37, 2 Corinthians 5:7)

Now may the God of hop fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

There is one more thing I pray for, not every day, but several times a week.

I pray for a Handful of Purpose.

I know what it is like to receive those unexpected little blessings. I want my husband and son to receive them also, not just for the benefit of receiving them. I want us to have those handfuls of purpose poured out upon us, to keep our faith and hope in God alive. To know that He is still there and watching over each of us. (Numbers 6:23-26, Ruth 2:16, Psalm 119:162, Acts 14:17, Acts 15:25)

Wisdom, being Peaceful, having Hope, and keeping Faith are four specific things I pray for each day for my family.
