Bosch Universal Plus Mixer

My KitchenAid was on its last leg and it was at the point, I only used it for mixing bread dough, everything else I mixed by hand. It wasn’t long after my husband bought my KitchenAid that I learned about Bosch mixers. I knew, if my KitchenAid ever died, I would purchase a Bosch Universal Plus Mixer. After a few years, with all the bread baking I do, the KitchenAid could not keep up any longer.

I had been saving up for a new mixer for a while, but still not enough to keep from dipping into our savings to make a purchase. The winter of 2014 brought about a ton of snow to our area. Since my husband’s job was making sure the state highways were safe for drivers, he worked a lot of overtime that winter. We always got excited when the call to work a holiday came because they added holiday pay to the overtime pay scale.

President’s Day was a dream come true for us because he worked enough hours that day to cover all of that month's bills and to make a splurge purchase. That night when he came in, he sat down and did a little calculating and told me to order the new mixer.

I’ll never forget the day when UPS dropped the box off. I did everything I could to keep from ripping it open and put it to use. I wanted my sweet husband to see some fruit of his work before the mixer became an active tool in the kitchen.

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer

Bosch created their first Universal Mixer in 1952. “Known for performance and exceptional reliability, Bosch takes food preparation to a whole new level. The Bosch kitchen mixer is uniquely designed with its motor below the bowl and out of the way, making it more compact, lightweight, weighing less than half what its competitors do, and easier for you to add ingredients and see inside the bowl as you're mixing.”

The Bosch Universal Plus Mixer is not like other stand mixers. It is a 6.5 quart, 800 watt workhorse that can mix up to 34 dozen cookies, or knead up to 14 one pound loaves of bread at one time. While I have not mixed that much dough at one time, I can see it happening. The speed and incorporation of mixing are amazing.

The mixer is lightweight (7 pounds) compared to my old mixer.  The bowl is BPA free.

The suction feet on the bottom of the mixer help keep it from moving when in use. The machine rocks when at high speed. But as long as the feet are secured to the countertop, you won’t have any problems with it moving.

I love the mixing bowl! It has a flat bottom, unlike other mixers. This helps in getting all the dough mixed without having to over mix your dough.

While the mixer is made for bread and thick dough, you can use it to make cakes. I use the cake paddles when making cakes. Remember the power behind the mixer when making cakes; you don’t want to over mix.

The dual paddles work together so there is no need of spending a lot of time mixing.

The Universal Plus Mixer has the optional attachments like the blender, stainless steel bowls, food processor, juicer, ice cream maker, slicer/shredder, and food and meat grinder with added attachments- berry press, grater, noodle/pasta maker.

When placing an order for a Universal Plus Mixer, be sure you are ordering the mixer with the paddles and whisks you want. They offer different packages you can add to; I ordered the package which included the cookie paddles and bowl scraper and bought the cake paddles.

Another thing, I would only buy directly from Bosch, whether you buy from their website or through Amazon and Walmart. That way, if something happens, you will deal with them and not an online store middleman. I noticed on Amazon some of the reviewers were talking about receiving unclean, used returns for their order and other minor problems with attachment and having to deal with the store they bought from.  The buyer was dealing with the middleman and not Bosch. Just something to think about.

What kind of mixer do you own? And how often do you use it? Leave me a comment, I'd love to know.
