A Comfortable Rut of Not Praying

Have you ever fallen into a comfortable rut? You know the one. The place where you are comfortable, you feel safe, you almost know how things are going to turn out. We've all been there.  But there is one Comfortable Rut most Christians are in and now the rut is beginning to grow over with problems.

The comfortable rut of not praying.

I shared this post in the past and since I moved my website, it sat in draft for many months. It was time for it to be updated and shared again.

After reading a blog post several years ago, it convicted me about something in many of our lives. The funny thing about the post is that there was nothing in it to convict. Sadly, it is gone from the internet. The blog owner closed her blog and removed everything. There’s no Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine evidence of her blog. It’s gone!

Every time I thought about what I read, it convicted me; it wasn’t just a guilty feeling. This conviction was strong enough to keep me from focusing on preparing supper that night. I had to stop and ask the Lord to help me and to forgive me for getting too comfortable; for falling into a comfortable rut.

I’m sure you are thinking,"What in the world?!" What could have her so convicted? I will tell you, Not praying for our country.

I am a 49-year-old  American. My generation has seen some great things happen. But we have also seen some bad things. I live in the best country in the world and I have freedoms that many do not. Freedoms some could never speak of. Freedoms many can only dream of. Freedom is just one of the many reasons I am proud to be an American.

Christians in the United States of America have fallen into a comfortable rut.

We have stood by with the thought that will never happen here”and allowed things to come about.

Will it happen here? Absolutely! It already is.

Watch the news. We have cities under fire. Protests have spiraled out of control. Businesses and homes being destroyed and looted by people who think it is okay to take from someone who has worked hard. People are being hurt or killed because they think and believe differently.

The left is pushing for fewer laws. They want to run a muck and if you try to stop them, then you have a target placed on your back.

All of this is going on while certain government officials are standing back and doing nothing to stop it.

While the news is not reporting it like other things, Social media is through word of mouth—churches are being closed or fined for being opened, pastors are being arrested for having services. Just on Saturday, another very large church in California had "cease and desist" placed on their church doors. Both morning and evening services were held. During the services, officials came to fine the church, $5000. They were fined $10,000 forsingingat church on Sunday!

While the protests and riots are being applauded and going unchecked in California, Christians there cannot assemble without fear of being fined or even arrested.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This has to stop! We have to do something or our religious freedom as we know it will be gone.

The comfortable rut of not praying.

We vote party and not with our convictions. We are at a point where we continue voting people into office that clearly have no regard to what the Bible says about life, marriage, and governing a nation.

We’ve allowed godless men and women to be put into leadership positions throughout our nation, all because of a promise, skin color, and a lack of knowledge on our part. I'll never forget an in-law saying she voted for a certain man because "he was so good looking". Looks should never be a reason for you to vote for someone.

Our country has a Biblical background. The Bible influenced our founding fathers, whether or not they were Christian.

Our laws have connections to biblical principles, no matter what people may think and say. Here’s a good list to see the connections.

As Americans, we have become too comfortable with what we have. We have settled for evil men and women to lead our nation and local governments. Why? Why are there not more Christians running for office?

Christians have been labeled as “closed minded fanatics”. Society does not want Christians leading them, they want the road to be clear of anything that will hinder their cause.

I honestly believe that Christians should run for office. In the past, we’ve had  pastors to resign churches to run for political offices. I don’t agree with this. I believe if God called a man to pastor; he has been called for life and for him to resign for political purposes he is stepping down from a higher position. But I understand why they do it. It is a sad day, when a pastor has to pick up the reigns because other good men will not for whatever reason.

I believe that there are Christian men and women willing to stand up and fight for the citizens of this nation. The only drawback, they don’t have the support from others. When I talk about support, I don’t mean monetary support, although money helps get things done. The best support they can have is prayer support.

This has to stop! We need to speak out. We need to pray up. We need to get behind the politicians that have the same or nearly the same convictions as we do. If possible, we need to volunteer time and effort into putting the right people in office. If those politicians do not work like they promised, vote them out. Don’t give them another chance!

The comfortable rut of not praying.

We have only a few short months before we have another presidential election. I don’t have to tell you who I will be voting for because at the moment there is only one man who comes close enough to what I believe in. He has shown just what he means while being in office. He is a business man, not a career politician.

No, he is not perfect. He has a past. He has his flaws. But so do you and I.

This next presidential election could change the way we live our lives. It will happen if we stand by and do nothing. If we stay in our comfortable rut.

I challenge you to pray.

  • Pray for our country.

  • Pray for our leaders.

  • Pray for the election.

  • Pray for our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.

Are you looking for help in researching our nation’s biblical heritage? I highly recommend the following.

Originally I shared in this post, “I wonder what would happen in our country if all Christians joined together and really prayed for our nation. I don't mean the hit and miss prayer when it crosses our mind. I mean setting aside time every day to pray just for our nation and leaders.” Even today, I still can't help but wonder what would happen.
