The post I saw was about the song “When My Amy Prays” by Vince Gill. The few measures played made me go in search of the whole song. Oh, my word! When I heard the words of how a wife presented her husband with his first Bible, she has his back without judgment, and how the words when she prays brings God’s face to be seen, I just melted.
I want to be that kind of wife.
The one who has her husband’s back without judging him. Patient and not nagging while he is trying to decide on the decisions he needs to make in his life. To be the encouragement my husband needs, whether it is vocal or quietly felt.
Sadly, I’m not always that kind of wife. But it is something I’m working on.
I shared about how I pray for my husband a while back. I mentioned if I don’t pray for him, there is no one to do it. While my mom prays for each of our families. She doesn’t know what we are dealing with or what my husband is dealing with specifically. We don’t tell things about our marriage to others; only to God.
My husband has no one else who loves him as I do. That means there is no one else who can pray for him as I can. While I’m sure there are things in his life he keeps to himself, I can still pray for them even when I don’t know what they are.
The way I live in front of him, the words I speak, the body language I give, do they bring God’s face into view? I know the answer to that question.
When my husband sees me, I want him to see a supportive wife no matter what. One who will not judge him for the decisions he makes. (Matthew 7:1-5) A wife who will not nag about petty things. (Romans 12:10, Proverbs 27:15, Ephesians 5:21) One who will love him unconditionally. (John 15:12, I John 4:15-20)
For me to be that kind of wife, I have to have my heart in order.
- My heart has to be focused on God and the things of him.
- I have to have a daily prayer life.
- I have to be honest with myself; accepting my faults and work on them.
This is awesome, Lori. How can we expect our family to really know God, when we don't live a Christ-like life in front of them? After all, they are the ones who see the good, the bad, and the ugly on a daily basis. I want my sweet husband to say, "When My Denise Lives". Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Denise! You're right, those closest to us know the real us.
DeleteHey Lori! Long time no see, uh, comment.I'm so glad I decided to pop in on this post. What a beautiful reminder of what our walk should look like to those we love the most. I pray that one day my family will be able to say through my life they say Jesus. Thank you for the sweet reminder.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tori. I've missed catching up with you and hopefully you'll get back to writing.
DeleteI really like this post. I'm newly married, and it is a good reminder of the importance of being a godly, prayerful wife.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jessica.
